Bozar Pairs Edith Dekyndt and Cristóbal Balenciaga in First Material Dialogue
From 14 October 2026 to 31 January 2027, Bozar in Brussels presents The Fabric Decides, an exhibition that places works by Belgian artist Edith Dekyndt (b. 1960) alongside pieces from the archives of fashion designer Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895–1972). This is the first time their works are shown together. The exhibition explores their shared fascination with materials, transformations, and traces of time. Curator María Inés Rodríguez states that Dekyndt's exploration of the Balenciaga archives reveals unexpected convergences and subtle dialogues between contemporary art and haute couture. The show includes around fifty works by Dekyndt, with about thirty on view for the first time, and over thirty pieces from the Balenciaga archives. It demonstrates how fabric transcends its role as mere material for both creators. The exhibition runs for three and a half months at Bozar, Brussels' premier cultural center.
