Bovenbouw Revitalizes Hasselt Beguinage as Public Green Space
Bovenbouw has successfully transformed the historic beguinage into a public green area known as the Instituto del Beguinaje de Hasselt, completing the project in 2025. Spanning 3800 m², the design was spearheaded by Dirk Somers, Joris Willems, and Marie van Kerckhoven, with contributions from a diverse team including Carole Boeckx, Ciarian Scannell, and others. David Kohn Architects played a role in the design, while Ingenieursbureau France handled landscape architecture. Engineering and consulting were managed by Beeck Hermans, Arcade, Triconsult, and M-gineers. Stijn Bollaert provided photography. Once a private refuge, the beguinage now serves as an inviting space for students, residents, and visitors, promoting interaction with its rich heritage and community-oriented future. Curated by Nina Vuga.
