Boucheron’s ‘Human Being’ Collection Celebrates Imperfect Human Craft Over AI

exhibition · 2026-07-07

During Paris High Jewelry Week 2026, Boucheron creative director Claire Choisne unveiled “Human Being,” a high jewelry collection arguing that humanity itself is the most precious material in an increasingly artificial world. The collection comprises five parures—Rain, Flower, Light, Tattoo, and Checkers—each built around a shared cluster necklace silhouette but differentiated by materials, techniques, and stones. Rain features hollow rock-crystal drops filled with bio-sourced resin and hand-placed diamonds, totaling over 4,800 stones and 1,300 hours of work. Flower uses micro-painting on rose quartz, with each stone taking about ten hours to paint, culminating in a 3.26-carat cushion diamond. Light employs 1,547 carats of morganite with a novel screw-setting technique to avoid pressure damage. Tattoo draws on Victorian motifs and maison archives, with smoky quartz carved in bas-relief using over 200 custom tools. Checkers uses femtosecond laser engraving on onyx to create a continuous houndstooth pattern across 163 stones. The campaign features six models in identical poses but with individual expressions, emphasizing singularity. The collection required over 14,000 hours of workshop time and closes with a list of the artisans’ first names, underscoring the irreplaceable value of human craftsmanship.
