Bota Bota Unveils Sid Lee-Designed Floating Spa Pavilion in Montréal

architecture-design · 2026-09-15

In July 2023, Bota Bota, the floating spa located in Montréal's Old Port, unveiled its first new vessel in over fifteen years: an 1,858-square-metre Pavillon crafted by Sid Lee Architecture under the direction of Jean Pelland. Unlike the quiet Bateau, a decommissioned ferry, the Pavillon promotes a communal spa atmosphere. It includes panoramic windows in the sauna, hourly Aufguss heat rituals, cold plunge pools, skylit hot tub areas, and a universal changing space for guests with mobility challenges. The design features exposed steel, tubular piping, and biophilic elements, harmonizing with the waterfront adjacent to Habitat 67. Additionally, the expansion improves changing rooms and lockers, catering to the rising wellness trend in Montréal.
