Bora Akinciturk's 'DUST' at Gern en Regalia Explores Istanbul's Erased Architecture

Gern en Regalia in New York is hosting 'DUST', the second solo exhibition by Bora Akinciturk, which showcases new paintings, a site-specific installation, and the publication titled 'DIAL TONE'. Born in Ankara in 1982 and currently residing in London and Istanbul, Akinciturk examines the impact of Turkey's 2012 urban transformation law on Istanbul's Asian-side neighborhoods. His large plaid artworks evoke childhood memories and old phone numbers, while smaller pieces utilize AI to extract figures from family images. The installation features a functional phone line (1-888-M41L B0X) for messages from visitors. 'DIAL TONE' includes texts and altered photographs depicting Istanbul's evolution. Akinciturk's recent exhibitions comprise 'The Interior' (Turin, 2025) and 'A Normal Life' (Istanbul, 2024). He earned a BFA from Yeditepe University (2007) and completed postgraduate studies at Middlesex University (2008).
