Bongsu Park's Scent-Based Exhibition Opens at MARV Gradara for Gradara Contemporanea

exhibition · 2026-06-28

The sixth edition of Gradara Contemporanea presents "Janhyang. I fiori della memoria," a solo exhibition by Korean artist Bongsu Park at the MARV (Museo d'Arte Rubini Vesin) in Gradara, Italy. The exhibition features works where plants are pressed onto canvas for months, leaving natural pigment imprints, accompanied by ceramic pots containing distilled scents from the same plants. Park, born in Busan and based in London, explores the asymmetry between visual memory and olfactory memory. The exhibition is organized in partnership with Rosenfeld Gallery in London, curated by Riccardo Freddo. MARV director Luca Baroni emphasizes the challenge of bringing international contemporary art to the small inland town of Gradara in the Marche region, historically a center for woad pigment production. The exhibition includes accessibility initiatives for the blind, developed with a local association, involving four curators under 25. Previous editions featured Araminta Blue and Keita Miyazaki, the latter now showing at the Venice Biennale.
