Bold Tendencies Marks 20 Years in Peckham Car Park with Euphoria Programme

exhibition · 2026-07-06

Bold Tendencies, a non-profit arts organization renowned for converting a multi-level car park in Peckham, south London, into a vibrant cultural hub, is commemorating its 20th anniversary with a program named Euphoria. Established by Hannah Barry at the age of 23, it has evolved from a grassroots project in a derelict building to a significant institution that has attracted over three million visitors. The organization holds a lifetime lease on the car park and offers an extensive creative learning initiative for the local community. The anniversary exhibition, Euphoria, showcases works such as a billboard-sized photograph by Andreas Gursky, Emma Hart's Last Chance Saloon installation, and a full orchestral performance of Mozart's Great Mass in C minor, running until 12 September. Previous notable commissions include Benedict Cumberbatch's reading of Carlo Rovelli's The Order of Time (2018) and Eve Stainton's performance set to Ennio Morricone's score for The Thing (1982). The venue also features Frank's Café, a rooftop highlight, and Simon Whybray's bubblegum-pink staircase (2016), along with Richard Wentworth's Agora floor painting from 2015. Barry has cited Dia Beacon as a key influence on the ambiance of the space, which has played a crucial role in elevating Peckham's cultural profile.
