Blue Jays Pitcher Dylan Cease's Painting Debuts at Art Gallery of Ontario

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Dylan Cease, a frontrunner for the American League Cy Young Award, showcased his acrylic painting 'Eve of Toronto' (2026) at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) on Tuesday, 25 August. The work, previously displayed in the office of Blue Jays manager John Schneider, drew a crowd of fans, with lines stretching nearly two blocks. Cease, who has no formal art training but has been painting since 2022, described the turnout as 'pretty mind-blowing' and contrasted painting's forgiving nature with baseball's warlike pressure. The AGO is marketing the collaboration as 'AGO x Cease,' with merchandise including t-shirts, sweaters, hoodies, tote bags, prints, and postcards, with proceeds benefiting the AGO. Cease, a Georgia native who joined Toronto in late 2025 as a free agent, also sold an original painting at the Jays Care Broadcast Auction on 12 August for C$16,000 ($11,600), contributing to the event's total of around C$600,000 ($434,000) for children's programmes across Canada.
