Block Shop Reimagines William Morris Wallpaper for LACMA Exhibition
Founded in 2013 by sisters Lily Stockman and Hopie Hill, the Los Angeles design studio Block Shop partnered with LACMA for the exhibition titled "Deep Cuts: Block Printing Across Cultures." Hill, along with designer Ainslee McAndrew, crafted a wallpaper pattern that draws inspiration from William Morris’s 19th-century "Rose" textile, infusing it with Block Shop’s unique style. This design features 28 hand-carved wooden blocks made in India, with hand-printed sections sent to a printer in Connecticut for final production. Additionally, Block Shop created a robe, scarf, and bandana showcasing the pattern. The exhibition, which includes insights into the design process, is displayed in the Resnick Pavilion until September 13, 2026, and will host a discussion with Hill and other artists on July 18.
