Blair Smith Architecture Renovates 2005 Melbourne Home with Two New Pavilions

Blair Smith Architecture has completed Holland Grove, a comprehensive renovation of a two-level residence originally built in 2005 in Melbourne, Australia, alongside the addition of two new lightweight pavilions in the backyard. The project, which spans 335 m², was designed in collaboration with interior design studio Hecker Guthrie and reevaluates the existing footprint to accommodate a blended family, prioritizing spatial expansion through subtle, landscape-focused additions. The team included Jack Heatley as project lead, Blair Smith as principal architect, Hyland Built as general contractor, JALA Landscape for landscape architecture, and R.I. Brown for structural engineering and consulting. Suppliers APATO and Thermory provided materials and products. Photography was by Lillie Thompson, and the project was curated by Miwa Negoro. Completed in 2024, the renovation falls under the category of houses and exemplifies a strategic approach to adapting existing residential structures for contemporary family needs.
