Black Thought Pavilion in Rijeka Uses Traditional Japanese Yakisugi Technique

In Rijeka, Croatia, a new structure called the Black Thought Pavilion has been built, showcasing the creative work of Alberto Collet and Çisem Nur Yıldırım, alongside MEDS (Meetings of Design Students). Hadir Al Koshta curated this remarkable and eco-friendly design, which employs the traditional Japanese Yakisugi technique for preserving wood through charring. The talented team includes tutors Çisem Nur Yıldırım and Alberto Collet, with contributions from engineer Ahmed Othman and materials specialist Kieran Donnellan. Participants involved are Leire Varo Marina, Ozana Konkoli, Vivek Bassi, and others. The project is backed by MEDS and its local group, MEDS Hrvatska, while photographers Jan Von Der Heyde and Tea Stipanović documented this culturally significant installation.
