Biophilic Public Art Transforms New York's Parks, Courtyards, and Waterfront in 2026
In 2026, New York City is witnessing a remarkable increase in public art that incorporates living plants and ecological themes. "Among the Flowers I Learned to Love: A Garden of Decreation," created by Precious Okoyomon, debuted on July 31, 2026, at MoMA PS1, turning the courtyard into a vibrant living space until 2028. This installation includes a large teddy-bear sculpture accompanied by sound from Oliver Leith. Additionally, "Green Between," curated by the Lower East Side Ecology Center, is set to take place from August 15 to November 1, 2026, at Clyde Romero Memorial Garden, featuring various artists. The "In Plain Sight" initiative at Brooklyn Army Terminal commissions works reflecting waterfront history. Since 1967, NYC Parks' "Art in the Parks" has showcased over 3,000 artworks focusing on ecological themes.
