BIG's Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art Opens, First Completed Art Museum by the Firm
The Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art (MoCA Suzhou) has been inaugurated by Jinji Lake in China, with a design collaboration involving BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, ARTS Group, VIA.inc, and SHUISHI. Spanning 60,000 square meters, the structure comprises 12 pavilions topped with a ribbon-like roof, drawing inspiration from the classical gardens of Suzhou. Featured in the opening exhibitions are works by Picasso and a retrospective celebrating contemporary Chinese art. Wang Xiaosong, the executive director, highlighted the museum's role in fostering discovery and cultural exchange. Bjarke Ingels noted that the design harmonizes Eastern and Western influences to improve urban connectivity. Additionally, BIG is engaged in projects such as the National Juneteenth Museum in Texas and a STEM university in Arkansas.
