BIG Designs Ephemeral 50,000-Capacity Stadium for Shakira's 2026 Madrid Residency

Bjarke Ingels Group has revealed plans for a temporary stadium in Madrid that will host Shakira's 11-concert residency in fall 2026. The 50,000-capacity venue, called Shakira Stadium at Macondo Park, will feature 30,000 seats and 20,000 standing spaces on a 21-hectare site within Iberdrola Music's festival grounds. Designed as a "living" landscape celebrating Latin American identity, the project includes giant LED screens described as unprecedented in Europe, artisan markets, food vendors, and children's play areas curated by Shakira's sons. The stadium's name references Macondo, the fictional town from Gabriel García Márquez's novel One Hundred Years of Solitude, connecting to Shakira's Colombian heritage. Over half a million tickets have already been sold for the shows, which are part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. The temporary structure will be dismantled after the residency, with architect Agustín Pérez Torres noting it aims to surpass Adele's 2024 bespoke Munich arena. The design incorporates colorful recycled fabric canopies, curved pathways, and "green islands" inspired by Spanish and Latin American landscapes.
