Biennale Rocco Dicillo: Iodice and Alfeo Installations Explore Democracy and Sacrifice

The Biennale d’Arte Contemporanea 'Rocco Dicillo' in Triggiano, Italy, takes a new direction focused on civic engagement. Curated by Carmelo Cipriani, the 2026 edition features site-specific installations by Pier Alfeo and Angelo Iodice at Palazzo Pontrelli, running from May to September 2026. The biennial is dedicated to Rocco Dicillo, an agent killed in the 1992 Capaci massacre. Alfeo's 'Calibro' uses an octahedron structure with opposing megaphones creating a tense sound field, symbolizing communication breakdown. Iodice's 'R.E.I.' combines a classical bust, hydraulic crane, and glass vessel to evoke sacrifice and resistance, referencing Prometheus and Pandora. Both works avoid celebration, instead confronting fragility of institutions, manipulation of language, and ethical responsibility.
