Between Worlds at Kodl Contemporary Explores Ceramics and Alchemy

'Between Worlds,' an exhibition at Kodl Contemporary in Prague, is curated by Mark Sanders and delves into the transformative nature of clay. Artists featured include Carolein Smit, Bouke de Vries, and Bertozzi & Casoni, all of whom push the limits of art and craft. Sanders draws inspiration from 18th-century alchemist Johann Friederich Böttger and the ancient Venus of Dolni Věstonice, which dates back 29,000 years. The works reflect themes of destruction and renewal, such as Bertozzi & Casoni's 2024 piece 'Oracolo,' showcasing a turtle entangled in fishing nets. Smit's 2025 sculpture 'Standing Medusa' explores mythological power, while De Vries presents 'Accumulation' in 2023, featuring stacked Chinese porcelain, and the 2026 'Delft Imari Teapot with Butterflies' with broken pieces. The exhibition is open from 4 September to 1 November 2026.
