Bertozzi & Casoni's Ceramic Illusions at ABC-ARTE Genoa

Bertozzi & Casoni present 'What’s the most incredible thing you’ve done?' at ABC-ARTE in Genoa, showcasing hyperrealistic ceramic sculptures that mimic everyday objects—plants, trash, rags, diet bars, and more—all crafted entirely in ceramic. The exhibition challenges perceptions of reality and artifice, with works like 'Chicco house' depicting a synthetic carpet strewn with consumer goods, and 'Terra!', a totemic pile of fake car batteries, metal cans, plastic cups, and fruit crates. Curated by Alberto Mattia Martini, the show emphasizes that sculpture is less an object than a contemplative image. Giampaolo Bertozzi noted that the work 'Me' (2011), a ceramic simulation of compressed scrap, was created during a complex period to 'put aside the past to make room for new things.' The artists reference Arman, César, Spoerri, and Schifano, but treat citations as perceptual tricks. The exhibition runs at ABC-ARTE in Genoa.
