Bego Antón's 'Everybody Loves to Cha Cha Cha' at Casa de América

The Casa de América in Madrid is hosting the exhibition 'Everybody Loves to Cha Cha Cha' by photographer Bego Antón, on view until September 30. The show coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States' configuration and is part of PHotoESPAÑA. Antón, a Bilbao-born artist, captures women dancing with their dogs in the practice of Musical Canine Freestyle, a choreographed activity where a person and their dog move together to music, wearing costumes related to the chosen song. The images, taken across various US states from New York to Arizona, document the coordinated movements of the pairs—intertwining, jumping, bowing, spinning, rolling, and moving in different directions. Antón also explored the participants' costumes, choreographies, and personal stories. The series highlights the intense bond between the dancers, sometimes entering what they call 'the pink bubble,' a dimension where they fuse and detach from the rest of the world.
