BDP Unveils Cell-Inspired CTTQ Research Campus in Shanghai's Hongqiao District

architecture-design · 2026-09-25

In Shanghai, China, BDP has finalized a pharmaceutical R&D headquarters spanning 186,000 square meters for Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical Group (CTTQ). Situated within the Hongqiao International Central Business District, the campus comprises four interconnected structures that symbolize cell division. Pairs of buildings are linked by glass bridges, while a curved sky bridge unites all the facilities, offering collaborative spaces. The research buildings feature adaptable floor plans, with one linking to staff housing and another to an administrative tower that houses a conference center. At the campus's core lies a public central park, which includes cafes, a canteen, and a gym. Energy performance is optimized through passive design strategies, as noted by BDP director Tianyi Gu, who highlighted the design's urban connection.
