Barbara Hoogeweegen's Noir-Inflected Townhouse Exhibition in Fitzrovia

Barbara Hoogeweegen, a Dutch artist, will showcase 'Into the Night' at 41 Whitfield Street, Fitzrovia, London, from September 11 to 23, 2026. This exhibition represents a departure from her usual open landscapes, featuring an immersive, noir-inspired installation spread across three floors of a 19th-century townhouse. For the first time, Hoogeweegen situates her figures within an experiential context reminiscent of an after-hours speakeasy, depicting chance encounters, secretive glances, and the aftermath of the night. Her vibrant palette of deep blues, saturated reds, and chrome yellows enhances the charged ambiance. Accompanying the artwork is an immersive soundscape by John-Paul Pryor of The Sirens of Titan, merging jazz, industrial synths, and moments of silence. Hoogeweegen often draws from found photography and film stills, delving into the 'slippage' between static moments and fluid emotions, with her figures embodying intimate states that evoke David Lynch's eerie atmospheres. The townhouse is transformed into a psychologically rich space, where light and shadow hint at concealed dimensions.
