Bar Shrimp in Manchester Uses Laser-Etched Acoustic Panels to Balance Music and Conversation

architecture-design · 2026-10-06

In Manchester, Bar Shrimp, a cocktail establishment, boasts red velvet decor and custom acoustic panels from Autex Acoustics to improve sound quality and conversation. The layout incorporates a tailored sound system, plush banquettes, and floor-to-ceiling curtains, drawing inspiration from classic New York bars. Co-founder Richard Cossins envisioned a laid-back atmosphere for patrons. To address the concrete flooring and glass walls, softer materials were integrated for enhanced acoustics. Autex Acoustics supplied a unique Frontier Axis ceiling system and Mirage wall panels to minimize echo, featuring laser-etched designs for added texture. Additionally, the bar is equipped with a Clarity M1215 Audio system. This venture marks the continuation of a six-year partnership between Cossins and Autex Acoustics.
