Bank of England Secures Long-Term Lease at Capitol House in Leeds, Set to Move in Late 2028
The Bank of England has entered into a long-term lease for a new office space at Capitol House, located in Bond Court, Leeds, which will eventually replace its existing location at Yorkshire House. This new facility is intended to foster collaboration and innovation, allowing the Bank to perform essential central banking operations from both its offices in London and Leeds. Currently, nearly 300 employees are based in Leeds, and the Bank aims to expand its workforce while enhancing ties with organizations throughout West Yorkshire and beyond. Governor Andrew Bailey referred to the new office as "an important milestone in our long-term commitment to the city." Mayor Tracy Brabin called the decision "a powerful endorsement of our Northern Square Mile." Cllr James Lewis highlighted the nearly 200-year partnership between Leeds and the Bank. Robert Marshall, Managing Director of Evans Property Group, announced that construction will begin in October, with the Bank planning to relocate to Capitol House by late 2028. This move is part of the Bank's Location Strategy Programme, which includes refurbishing its Threadneedle Street site in London to consolidate its property footprint by the end of 2028.
