Ba-rro Turns a Carabanchel Street-Level Commercial Unit into a Home That Filters Light and Protects Privacy

architecture-design · 2026-10-22

In Carabanchel, Madrid, Ba-rro has converted a previous commercial property into a living space that harmonizes public and private elements. The entrance, which opens directly to the street, includes a double-layer door: a solid metal layer for security and a perforated layer for airflow. The zaguán showcases an angular design with a door and a letterbox. The façade incorporates glass blocks, allowing light while maintaining privacy. The initial room serves as a workshop, complete with a bathroom box and earthy-toned shelving, inspired by the client, a ceramic artist and fashion designer. A corridor leads to a patio, featuring a kitchen with wooden cabinets and a clay-toned countertop, alongside a bathroom and bedroom enclosed by a clay-finished volume. Marta Wall captured the project in photographs.
