Australian Artist Devaura Discusses New EP and Creative Process in Interview

Australian indie musician Devaura released her second EP titled 'Vol. 2 If You Don't Laugh, You'll Cry' in March 2025, following her debut 'Vol. 1 Learning in Public.' In an interview, she described her music as an earnest and theatrical exploration of human experience, serving as a soundtrack for learning to engage with love and life. The artist cited influences including Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Ray BLK, Raye, Chloe Bailey, Doja Cat, Missy Elliot, Florence Welch, and Coldplay. The final track completed for the new project was 'H0ME,' created during a one-hour session with collaborator JAIMS, addressing themes of homelessness and personal autonomy. Devaura mentioned overcoming creative blocks by engaging with different media or conversations, and expressed enthusiasm for performing live in various venues. Her visual work draws from queerness, color, and euphemisms, aiming to create allegorical worlds. Notable fan experiences include a supporter traveling over eight hours to attend a show. She expressed interest in touring with artists such as Amyl and the Sniffers, Robbie Williams, Tkay Maidza, Genesis Owusu, Lizzo, and Jessica Mauboy. Devaura highlighted 'H0ME' and 'REDBULL' as standout tracks from the EP, noting their raw honesty about perception, love, and loss.
