Augustas Serapinas' Physical Culture: Porto Edition at Galeria Municipal do Porto

The Galeria Municipal do Porto is presenting the inaugural Portuguese showcase of Augustas Serapinas, a Lithuanian artist born in 1990 in Vilnius, titled Physical Culture: Porto Edition. This exhibition delves into the connections between art history and bodily representation, emphasizing repetition as a technique in both classical art and physical training. The venue functions as both an academic training ground, traditionally focused on classical sculpture drawing, and a gym where attendees can engage with the installations. Throughout the exhibition, local communities and guests can join bodybuilding, fitness, and drawing sessions. This Porto edition uniquely centers on its location and includes over sixty replicas from the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis's sculpture collection, featuring the notable piece The Exiled, which substitutes for weights on gym machines.
