ATINATI honors Georgian sculptor Rusudan Gachechiladze in Tbilisi
ATINATI Cultural Center in Tbilisi presents a retrospective of Rusudan Gachechiladze (1937–2024), a key figure in post-war Georgian sculpture. The exhibition features plaster and bronze works, including Woman with Baby (1980s), and drawings from the 2000s–2010s. Gachechiladze trained and taught at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, influencing generations with a Modernist approach that balanced formal reduction with psychological depth. Her work, developed under Soviet constraints, often survives only in plaster due to lack of durable casting. The show draws from ATINATI's collection of over 3,000 works tracing Georgian art from Modernism to the present. Director Sofio Chakvetadze notes Gachechiladze's role in connecting Georgian sculpture to international Modernist discourse and strengthening women's visibility in the field. Runs until June 7.
