Atelier XÜK Revitalizes Zhongxin Village Plaza with Banyan Trees
Atelier XÜK has completed the renovation of the Plaza del Antiguo Baniano in Zhongxin Village, Huizhou, Guangdong, China. The project covers 615 square meters and was finished in 2025. Photographs by Yumeng Zhu document the transformation. Zhongxin Village, over 700 years old, sits in a mountain basin with a river running through a valley. Its entrance is marked by two ancient banyan trees. Most existing buildings date from the 1990s, constructed with brick and concrete. Recent uniform renovations added painted facades and metal eaves, giving the village a contemporary rural Chinese texture. The plaza renovation focuses on the historic banyan trees as a central feature.
