Atelier des Lumières Plunges Into the Abyss With 'Planète Océan'

exhibition · 2026-10-07

Starting on 16 October, the Atelier des Lumières in Paris will showcase Planète Océan, a fifty-minute immersive experience divided into seven chapters that delves into the ocean, from its surface to the depths. The presentation kicks off with a rotating Fresnel lens, initially tested in 1822 at the Arc de Triomphe. Viewers will encounter coral reefs, mobula rays, humpback and sperm whales, along with bioluminescent life forms in the deep sea. The ascent reveals shipwrecks and litter, illustrated as a constellation of floating bags. The narrative was developed by oceanographers Lisa Brenot and Maé Dany-Fort, with creative direction from Jean-Baptiste Hardoin, 3D modeling by Tigrelab, effects by Cutback, and narration by Claire Tran. Additionally, SpectreLab offers a children's workshop where scanned coloring pages can be released into the water.
