At 101, Ce Roser Gets First Solo Show in 30 Years at Sebastian Gladstone

Ce Roser, a 101-year-old Chinese American artist, is having her first solo exhibition in over three decades at Sebastian Gladstone gallery in Tribeca, New York. The show, titled 'Ten to Get Ready, and Ten to Go,' runs from May 1 to June 13, 2026, and features works from 1977 to 1986. Roser was born in Philadelphia in 1925 to Chinese American parents and began painting after a friend lent her oil paints while she was living abroad as a foreign service wife. She trained at the Berlin Art Academy in the early 1950s and later joined the American Abstract Artists group. In 1971, she co-founded the Women in the Arts Foundation, which protested for female representation at museums alongside artists like Elaine de Kooning, Alice Neel, and Louise Bourgeois. Her work is in the collections of over 30 institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. The gallery sold eight works in the opening weeks, with prices ranging from $28,000 to $54,000. Roser still paints but has been focused on the exhibition. Her son, Lorin Roser, is an artist and musician.
