Astet Studio designs Mitsu restaurant in London with Tokyo izakaya references

Astet Studio, located in Barcelona, has crafted Mitsu, a Japanese eatery in Shoreditch, London, drawing influence from Tokyo's izakaya bars. The establishment showcases modern Shoji screens illuminated as panels, an eight-meter hand-painted fabric adorned with sake designs, and concrete panels that mimic Yakisugi. Upon entering, patrons traverse a Tsuboniwa courtyard garden and walk beneath LED arches to reach the main bar area, characterized by ceiling-height drapes and a blackened steel framework. The lighting, inspired by Utsuroi, transitions from day to night. Unlike the bar's red tones, the main dining space employs warmer hues. Japanese design elements, such as Kokeshi dolls and Taru sake barrels, enhance the ambiance. Co-founders Ala Zreigat and Oscar Engroba envisioned a lively, inviting environment.
