Asian Pop Exhibition Opens at NRW-Forum Düsseldorf
The NRW-Forum Düsseldorf will launch the exhibition "Asian Pop" on 17 September. The show examines East Asian popular culture, moving beyond entertainment electronics to cultural production. Düsseldorf has Germany's largest East Asian population, a key reason for hosting the exhibition. The promised spectrum includes Kawaii characters such as Hello Kitty, Studio Ghibli animated films, K-Pop bands like BTS, and games such as Black Myth Wukong. The organizers go beyond presenting culture itself: they address its cultural-political, economic, and aesthetic influences, as well as the global success of Asian Pop in all its facets. The exhibition features Cao Fei's 2006 video work "My future is not a Dream," a still from which is courtesy of the artist and Creative Vitamine Space Guangzhou. The article is by Jürgen Wittner.
