Åsa Johannesson's decade-long queer photography project debuts at Stills
Stills in Edinburgh is set to unveil Åsa Johannesson's solo exhibition, 'The Queering of Photography' (2015–2025), showcasing five related series for the first time. Featured works encompass performative black-and-white studio portraits, explorations of Roman sculptures, and Polaroid emulsion sculptures. Johannesson, who authored the research monograph 'Queer Methodology for Photography' published by Routledge in 2024, interrogates traditional photographic conventions by delving into queer visual languages via materiality and methodology. This exhibition will be on display until 28 June 2026.
