Artist Justin Gignac Sells $25 Trash Souvenirs from Taylor Swift's Wedding

New York City artist Justin Gignac sold out of 50 pocket-sized vitrine boxes filled with street trash collected outside Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding at Madison Square Garden on July 3, priced at $25 each. The edition, part of his ongoing 'New York City Garbage' project (2001–present), includes items like bottle caps, cigarette butts, and a left AirPod. Gignac began the project during a college internship to prove that packaging design matters, initially selling cubes from a cardboard box in Times Square for $5. He has sold over 1,700 cubes to New Yorkers, tourists, and international buyers. Other editions include Barack Obama's first inauguration, the legalization of gay marriage in NYC, and the 2009 World Series. Gignac paused the project for a decade to start his own company but resumed on the 25th anniversary of his first sale. The wedding edition was motivated by the event's cultural polarization, fan fervor, and disruption to public transit. One cube containing an ovulation test kit found at the site is already spoken for.
