ARTIFACT at Not That Deep Gallery: Artists Imagine 2026 as Future Relic

exhibition · 2026-10-13

Not That Deep Gallery in Bushwick, Brooklyn, presented ARTIFACT from June 27 to July 18, 2026, a group exhibition curated by co-founders Sadie Withers and Alina Hoai. The show asked nine artists—Sophia Berman, Jack Blasko, Robert Falco, Yining Fang, Pao Silva Lizárraga, Jake Molter, Siah Prince, Kutay Tufekci, and Heaven Weathersby—to interpret what objects, ideas, and themes from 2026 might be considered historical artifacts two centuries from now. In his review, Liam Otero describes works including Heaven Weathersby's found-object assemblage Heaven's Room (2026), which features a portable DVD player screening Twilight (2008) or White Chicks (2004), along with Nicole Kidman AMC ads and Twilight memorabilia. Jacob Molter contributed a painting of Jeffrey Epstein, continuing his focus on cultural spectacle. Yining Fang's resin sculpture A Letter to History from Time (2026) encases a typed letter reading 'To History: There is no history. Best, Time.' Pao Silva Lizárraga created a heart-shaped digital fortune-telling machine that dispensed a yeast infection diagnosis and banished the reviewer to Tijuana. Jack Blasko showed Chameleon (2025), an acrylic on canvas. An artist talk by Defne Ayaz, titled 'Contemporary Relics and Collective Memory,' accompanied the exhibition. The gallery will hold a one-year anniversary reception for It's Not That Deep on Friday, October 16, from 5–9pm, featuring over 30 artists who have shown there in the past year.
