Arte Abierto Baja: New Open-Air Gallery in Los Cabos by Sordo Madaleno

Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos has designed Arte Abierto Baja, a new open-air public art gallery located at Ánima Village in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The project, completed in 2025, spans 180 square meters and aims to foster a dialogue between Mexican and international artists and the landscape of Baja California Sur. The gallery is curated by Valentina Díaz and features a design team led by architects Javier Sordo Madaleno Bringas, Javier Sordo Madaleno de Haro, and Fernando Sordo Madaleno de Haro. The architecture direction was handled by Luis Hernández and Boris Peña, with a substantial design and engineering team contributing to the project. The gallery is part of the Arte Abierto initiative, which seeks to make contemporary art accessible in public spaces. The project's photographs were taken by Pablo Manjarrez and Ariadna Polo. The gallery's construction was coordinated by Emilio Bargueño, with structural engineering by Silos y Asociados, mechanical engineering by CYVSA/DYPRO, electrical engineering by UG21, and specialist systems by Insecom. Lighting design was provided by Artec, landscape architecture by PAAR, and wayfinding and street furniture by Polvora Design. The developer and project manager is SOMA. This new cultural venue highlights the growing presence of contemporary art in the Los Cabos region, offering a unique setting that integrates art with the natural environment.
