ART for The World's 'Playgrounds & Toys 2000–2025' Donates Collection to Benaki Museum, Athens

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Benaki Museum in Athens will host 'Playgrounds & Toys 2000–2025' from 30 October 2025 to 11 January 2026, featuring over 60 creations from 50 artists, celebrating the donation of this collection. This initiative, launched by Adelina von Fürstenberg’s ART for The World in 1996, highlights the importance of cultural rights. Featured works include Alfredo Jaar's Nikinu System (2000) and Vito Acconci's Klein Bottle Playground (2000), among others. Many of these designs have been implemented worldwide with institutional backing. Noteworthy installations comprise Pip Horne and Shirazeh Houshiary's Untitled (2004) in London and Chen Zhen's trampoline (2009) in Shenzhen. The timeline begins with Maria Papadimitriou's Fiteiro Cultural (1998–2003) in post-earthquake Athens.
