Art for Takayna Residency Marks 870 Artists with New Exhibitions and Book
Launched in 2015 by Dan Brown and Jenny Webber, the Bob Brown Foundation’s Art for Takayna residency, originally known as Tarkine in Motion, has welcomed around 870 artists for a five-day camping experience in the Takayna/Tarkine wilderness of northwest Lutruwita/Tasmania. Participants engage in guided walks with scientists, activists, and members of the palawa pakana community, contributing to an annual fundraising exhibition in Hobart while contemplating how their work can aid the campaign for World Heritage Status and the return of land to its traditional owners. Notable alumni projects include David Booth and Kristoffer Paulsen’s Takayna Forest Face exhibition at CS Gallery in Victoria, running until 12 October, and musician Dave McEvoy’s grand piano performance recorded in Takayna, showcased at Adelaide's Immersive Light and Art from 18 September to 10 October. Applications for the 2027 residency and volunteer roles are currently open.
