Art Basel Unlimited 2026: 59 Large-Scale Projects Under New Curator Ruba Katrib

Art Basel Unlimited 2026 returns with 59 ambitious projects presented by 66 galleries at Messe Basel. Curated for the first time by Ruba Katrib, Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs at MoMA PS1, the section features works from the postwar period to the present. Highlights include Isa Genzken's "Untitled" (2018), an installation of airplane windows and abandoned passenger seats; Helen Marten's CGI film "Writing A Play (dark blue orchard)" (2023), voiced by Gwendoline Christie; Ed Ruscha's monumental text work "A, B, C" (1987), originally for the Miami-Dade Public Library; Bruce Nauman's maze-like "Dead End Tunnel Folded into Four Arms with Common Walls" (1980); Goshka Macuga's "Exhibition M: A Re-enactment" (2023–2026), inspired by André Malraux's "imaginary museum"; Oskar Schlemmer's Bauhaus sculpture "Homo, Composition in Metal" (1930–1931); Theaster Gates's "A libation in Uncertain Times" (2024), featuring over 1,000 sake bottles; Tracey Emin's "Knowing My Enemy" (2002), built around a salvaged beach hut from Margate; and Alfredo Jaar's "The Power of Words" (1984/2021), combining projected imagery and neon text. Katrib's curation emphasizes how artists use monumentality to sharpen perception, addressing political, social, ecological, and psychological themes.
