Art Basel's Parcours 2026 Explores Conviviality Across Basel

exhibition · 2026-06-16

Curated by Stefanie Hessler for the third time, Art Basel's city-wide Parcours exhibition takes "conviviality" as its theme, examining the beauty and complexity of living together. Spread across shop windows, churches, hotels, abandoned buildings, and Basel's tram network, the show features works by Kader Attia, Cinthia Marcelle, Sarah Crowner, Ishi Glinsky, Amol K Patil, Haegue Yang, and Pélagie Gbaguidi. Attia's Untitled (Rainsticks) uses 21 bamboo rainsticks on mechanised supports to evoke control over nature and climate change. Marcelle's intervention in a disused building places three glasses and stacks of coins on separate floors, creating déjà vu and commenting on art market conditions. Crowner's Sliced Wings series installs geometric posters on trams and throughout Basel, interrupting commercial advertising. Glinsky's Friday 13th mask sculpture subverts the "cursed Indian burial ground" trope, shown at Bajour media outlet. Patil's immersive installation at Volkshaus Basel includes a radio emitting political speeches and smoke, rooted in labour activism. Yang's venetian blind sculptures at Manor department store pay homage to Minimalism, while synthetic fibre works inspired by the Imoogi serpent appear on Mittlere Brücke and the historic distillery. Gbaguidi's Fragmentation at St Clara Church uses pigment-covered bread bags to reference social inequality and migration, within an active place of worship.
