Armed Man Charged at Ohio Governor Candidate Amy Acton at Fair

During a campaign event at the Canfield Fair in Canfield, Ohio, on Sunday, an armed individual rushed toward Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for governor. The man, named Patrick Havas, 38, pushed through the crowd, causing several attendees to fall as he approached Acton, who previously served as the state's public health director. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Havas was armed with a taser and two handguns. Following his arrest, the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office found two pistols and brass knuckles, noting that no weapons were displayed or drawn. Havas faces charges of disorderly conduct and two counts of assault and was taken to the county jail. Acton remained unharmed. Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican, denounced the incident, emphasizing that violence at public events is intolerable. This attempted attack adds to a troubling trend of political violence in the U.S., with the Ohio gubernatorial election just six weeks away in November, making it one of the year's most prominent races.
