ARCHWASTE Transforms Irregular Shanghai Commercial Space into Evolving Office
ARCHWASTE, led by principal architect Hou Yutong with design team member Yang Yuhang, has completed a 60-square-meter office project in Shanghai, China, in 2025. The project, titled 'Oficina en Obra Semicontundente' (Office in Semi-Blunt Construction), is located on the ground floor of a residential complex. The design deliberately retains visible traces of construction, exposed structures, and everyday functions, embracing the site's irregularities rather than eliminating them. The office is accessed through two narrow consecutive corridors, creating a labyrinthine path that integrates the spatial quirks into the project's character. The general contractor is Hangzhou Huayou Construction Engineering Co Ltd, with photographs by Cheng Dai and products supplied by MOOSOO. The project falls under the category of office interiors and was curated by HAN Shuang. The design approach reflects a growing trend in adaptive reuse and raw aesthetics in contemporary architecture.
