ArchiWorkshop and Siaplan Propose Urban Weave for Seoul Sports Complex
ArchiWorkshop, teaming up with Siaplan, has introduced Urban Weave, a new concept for the Multi-Sports Complex in Gwangjang-dong, Gwangnaru, Seoul. This design highlights the location's past as a river crossing, transforming it into a dynamic, multi-layered civic sports hub. Rather than a traditional enclosed venue, it features a network of horizontal platforms, terraces, and pathways that blend sports, culture, and community initiatives. A public roof terrace provides views of the Han River, while existing facilities are reorganized into a cohesive pedestrian layout. Central to the design is a fighting sports arena for taekwondo and mixed martial arts. The Hybrid Active Grid promotes interaction across various levels. The project covers 30,000 sqm in Gwangjin-gu, Republic of Korea, with contributions from Ove Arup, HEA, and MIR.
