Architects Office Builds São Paulo Pavilion from Reused Glulam Timber

architecture-design · 2026-10-07

The IZ Pavilion, a 661-square-metre building constructed from surplus glued-laminated timber (glulam), has been finalized by Architects Office in São Paulo. Situated on a 0.6-acre site within the Rua Francisco Leitão residential area, this structure functions as a marketing venue for developer Idea!Zarvos and is intended to be taken apart and reassembled. Collaborating with Brazilian glulam producer Urbem, the project, spearheaded by AO's founder Greg Bousquet and creative director Rafael Igayara, incorporates traditional Japanese kigumi joinery. Featuring a framework of robust timber columns, it promotes circulation and greenery. Bousquet likened the endeavor to 'a huge puzzle.' Photography credits go to Manuel Sá.
