Architect Builds $45M North by Northwest House Hitchcock Wanted Wright to Design

Architect John Boccardo has realized a lifelong dream by constructing a real-life version of the Vandamm House from Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 film North by Northwest, listed at $45 million. The house, located overlooking Park City, Utah, faithfully replicates the modernist villain's lair originally designed by production designer Robert F. Boyle. Hitchcock had initially approached Frank Lloyd Wright to design the house, but Wright demanded ten percent of the film's budget, leading to Boyle's involvement. The original set was built using partial constructions and matte paintings. Boccardo's version includes an eighteen-seat home theater, anticipating a cinephile buyer. The house is inspired by Wright's Fallingwater, particularly its cantilevered porches, though the film version used steel beams for structural reasons. The property is listed for sale.
