Apparatus Unveils Act V: Afsaneh, First Collection in Five Years
Apparatus, a design studio based in New York, has unveiled Act V: Afsaneh, marking its first new collection in five years. Gabriel Hendifar, the artistic director, shared that this collection delves into the theme of light. The term Afsaneh, which translates to both his mother's name and "fable" in Persian, encompasses four series: Esfand (the seed), Gol (the flower), Rahvi (the serpent), and Jahaan (the cosmos). Esfand features sconces, vessels, and an incense burner, while Gol showcases cast-glass seeds paired with fiberglass shades. Rahvi includes amulets adorned with seven semi-precious stones, and Jahaan represents community. The collection also introduces a fragrance reminiscent of moonlight in a desert rose garden and includes five short films created with the Martha Graham Dance Company. Hendifar stresses the importance of introspection between collections.
