Antony Gormley and Nikhil Chopra at Galleria Continua, San Gimignano

At Galleria Continua in San Gimignano, Antony Gormley presents 'What Holds Us', a solo exhibition exploring the body's relationship with space and architecture, alongside a performance by Nikhil Chopra titled 'Embers/Braci'. The show runs until September 13, 2026. Gormley's works include three large basalt 'Blockworks' that invert the caryatid role, 'Slabworks' in concrete, stone, iron, and terracotta, and a new cardboard installation 'Innercity' (2026) composed of fifteen box-like buildings. For the first time, Gormley uses cardboard as a metaphor for contemporary e-commerce culture. Chopra's three-hour performance with composer Uriel Barthélémi involved theatre, music, and installation, building on his earlier works 'Fire x Fire – Ignition' and 'Fire x Fire – Combustion'. The artists previously collaborated at Galleria Continua in 2012 with 'Vessel' and 'Inside Out'.
