Antonia Wright's 'Exilio' Extended at Piero Atchugarry Gallery Through July 2026

Miami-born, Cuban-descended artist Antonia Wright, known for using her body as a tool in performance, video, photography, sound, and installation, explores exile, migration, and survival. Her current exhibition 'Exilio' at Galería Piero Atchugarry in Miami, co-presented with Rubén Millares, has been extended through July 2026. The show centers on a refugee boat rescued off Key Biscayne, used by Cubans fleeing the island. The boat bears bullet holes from before reaching US shores, which the artists transform into symbols of resilience. The immersive space uses sound and light to let visitors physically feel displacement. Wright's work 'Suddenly We Jumped' (2014), a slow-motion video of her naked body breaking a glass sheet, is also on view at Museo Arte Al Límite in Panquehue, Chile, as part of 'Ella en Foco'. The exhibition includes cyanotypes fractured by Wright, and a paddle embedded in oolitic limestone. Wright's practice consistently questions gender, bodily limits, and power structures.
