Anton Giulio Onofri's Pellestrina Photography Show Opens in Venice

exhibition · 2026-10-15

The photographic exhibition titled Pellestrina isola sottile by Anton Giulio Onofri is on display until 4 November at both Fondazione Querini Stampalia and Galleria 200C in Venice. Curated by Cristiana Collu and Olga Strada, the exhibition highlights Pellestrina, an 11-kilometre long island situated between the lagoon and the sea, featuring villages such as Santa Maria del Mare and San Piero in Volta. At Querini Stampalia, five winter photographs illustrate the island's shrinking landscape, while Giudecca presents summer scenes of lively community interactions. An unpublished text by Giovanni Montanaro links these two collections. Onofri, who was born in Rome in 1959, documented his visit to Pellestrina in September 2025 during the Venice Film Festival, using an iPhone and a Leica to capture the area's environmental vulnerability.
