Anselm Kiefer's 11-Metre 'Black Flakes' Unveiled in David Chipperfield Pavilion in Künzelsau

exhibition · 2026-10-16

On 13 October, a concrete pavilion created by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin was inaugurated next to Museum Würth 2 in Künzelsau. This structure is dedicated to Anselm Kiefer's 2007 painting Schwarze Flocken (Black Flakes), which collector Reinhold Würth acquired in 2008 and had been kept in storage for almost twenty years. Commissioned by the Würth Group in 2025, the pavilion's design was influenced by Kiefer. Spanning 140 sq. m, the building includes a portico and is designed to maximize natural light. Maria Würth remarked that it provides an appropriate setting for the artwork. The event also marked the reopening of Kunsthalle Würth in Schwäbisch Hall, showcasing the exhibition Anselm Kiefer—All That Is the Case until 3 October 2027.
