Anoushka Mirchandani's Dual Institutional Shows Explore Diaspora and Identity
Anoushka Mirchandani, who was born in Pune in 1988 and moved to the United States at the age of eighteen, is currently showcasing two simultaneous institutional exhibitions. 'Everyone You Love Lives Here' is on display at the FLAG Art Foundation in New York City until July 31, while 'My Body Was A River Once' can be seen at the Institute of Contemporary Art San José until August 23. Her artworks, created using oil sticks and pastels, delve into themes of memory, migration, and identity. The FLAG exhibition is organized into three distinct emotional chapters, whereas the ICA presentation includes her inaugural silk installation featuring seven panels measuring 8 to 10 feet and a multi-channel audio piece in collaboration with music producer Sanaya Ardeshir. Mirchandani’s art engages in dialogue with the works of Cindy Sherman, Lisa Yuskavage, and Louise Bourgeois. Future endeavors include a residency with The Sherman Family Foundation in partnership with The Baltimore Museum of Art, an Arctic residency, and a group exhibition at the Ford Foundation in August, curated by Dexter Wimberly.
